In 1998 John A. Bang took and interest in malicious software (viruses, trojan horse [backdoor access], intrusive advertising software [spyware/adware]. He frequented Internet technical support web boards and offered free assistance to users who had fallen victim to these malware files. In time he attended Syracuse University to receive various IT certifications and opened the business. First he worked from home and later opened a storefront. Now they are the premier computer service facility in the area and currently have five technicians specializing in several technology fields.
COMPU-TECHS is one of the few computer businesses which began studying and exterminating spyware when there were only a handful of known examples on the Internet. Sidenote: Over the years, COMPU-TECHS has submitted over 4,000 undiscovered malicious files to various ant-virus software companies so they could update their program detection capabilities. Some of the companies included are Trendmicro (PCCillin), Symantec (Norton Antivirus), Network Associates (McAfee) and Aviratech (AntiVir).
