In another era, lighthouses guided ship captains along the route to their destinations
and insured safe passage around shipping hazards. Many lighthouses still perform that function to
some extent, though today's modern technological advances and global positioning satelites have largely
taken over. But the alure and picturesque nature of lighthouses has not changed. Lighthouses are the
subject of countless paintings and photographs, and the 1000 Islands Region is rich in lighthouse legacy.
Throughout the Thousand Islands Region you will find numerous lighthouses. Some even offer accommodations.
But all will please your camera and tickle your photographer's skills. |
